* Participants undergoing elective primary total shoulder arthroplasty
* Participants willing to provide written consent
Exclusion Criteria:
* History of prior surgery to the operative shoulder
* Known allergy to povidone iodine, iodine or shellfish
* active clinical infection
* participation in other clinical trials
