The study will assess if interacting with different-race people causes shifts in childrens race-based social preferences and inferences associations and social relationships about social structures compared to interacting with same-race people
Detailed Description:
The purpose of the overall study is to examine how children learning about US social history influences their social biases in early childhood Specifically this project will test whether children who receive a chance to have discussions about race and history with different-race people will expect more affiliation across races and show less wariness toward different-race strangers compared to children who interact andor discuss with same-race people Investigators are also interested in exploring how childrens social networks and neighborhood demographics relate to childrens responses Researchers will also examine whether caregivers implicit racial bias and discussions about race relate to childrens responses and explore whether racial majority White children show higher racial bias and more persistent racial bias even after the intervention compared to racial minority children This Study will be longitudinal and take place online and have multiple sessions
