Description:
This gene encodes a member of the family 1 of G-protein coupled receptors. This receptor mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. This receptor is a selenoprotein containing selenocysteine at the active site. The selenocysteine is encoded by the usual nonsense (stop) codon UGA. This gene has a pseudogene located on chromosome 14. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene.
